Dr. Emily Holt, DO, MPH

Emily Holt is a Board certified Family Physician. She graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Health, went to medical school at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed a residency in Family Medicine at Columbia University--New York Presbyterian in Manhattan.

Dr. Holt spent time serving New Orleans before, during and after Hurricane Katrina. She was an Emergency Medical Technician for New Orleans Emergency Medical Services prior to going to medical school. Once she became a physician, she provided comprehensive Family Medicine for all ages at St. Thomas Community Health Center. As the interim Assistant Medical Director of Tulane Campus Health, and the physician on the Eating Concerns Team, Dr. Holt developed a special interest in the unique needs of the young adult population.

At Poppy Direct Care, Dr. Holt hopes to bring back the doctor-patient relationship by focusing on personalized, unhurried care. Insurance-based medicine has broken down the doctor-patient relationship. Dr. Holt's favorite part of Primary Care is getting to know her patients' stories and helping them optimize their health in a way that works best for them. Her favorite part of Direct Primary Care is that she can actually spend the time needed to do that well, without worrying about billing, coding, and heavily regulated documentation. As a "comprehensivist," she enjoys diving deep into patients' symptoms, figuring out why they may be happening, and finding solutions through shared decision-making. Stepping away from insurance-based medicine allows her to see fewer patients, spend more time with patients, and make medical decisions without the interference of insurance companies and non-medical bureaucrats. With the freedom to practice medicine more holistically in Direct Primary Care, Dr. Holt has rooted her practice in wellness, and emphasizes proactive rather than reactive healthcare. She provides full body care for all bodies, including sexual and reproductive health.
